A dog license is needed for your dog to be return to you. It’s a form of identification along with a tattoo and/or microchip. Here’s how to obtain one.

You’ll need
Payment of fee
Veterinary Examine
Vaccination records

Optional
Tattoo
Pliers

Step 1
Check with your local government office regarding if a license is required. The license does require a fee, which can be paid with either cash or electrically. If you’re obtaining the license for the first time, you would need to print out a form to fill it out. If you’re renewing a license, you can go on the office’s website and follow the renewal from a pay with a card.

TIP: Some municipalities would reduce the annual fee cost if the dog has been sterilized.

Step 2
Have a veterinary examination. You’ll need your dog’s vaccination records. You should also consider a microchip to add further protection.

Step 3
Write down details of your dog on the section provided, such as the breed, sex, and color. Some owners had their dogs tattooed for identification.

Step 4
Submit the forms. This can be done either by mail or in person. Make sure you include the fee payment.

Step 5
Once an ID tag is mailed to you, put it on your dog collar. You might have to use pliers in some cases. However, it would be wroth knowing once your dog wonders off, a reunion can be done.

Did you know? Lord Byron had a dog and a bear as pets and brought the latter with him to Trinity College in Cambridge since the policy prohibited domesticated animals preventing the former from being with Byron.
